The Old North State League (ONSL) is built on hard work, heart, and a diverse mix of talent from all levels of college baseball. The numbers speak for themselves, and we’re proud of every athlete who chooses to compete in the ONSL.

The ONSL is one of the fastest-growing and most competitive collegiate summer leagues in the country. This season, our almost 750 players represent a broad and impressive spectrum of college baseball programs:

  • NCAA Division I: 16.9%
  • NCAA Division II: 27.9%
  • NCAA Division III: 14.66%
  • Junior College (JUCO): 31.56%
  • NAIA: 5.7%
  • Transfer/Other: 3.25%

The reality is: talent lives across all levels of college baseball—and the ONSL is proud to put that talent on full display. No matter where they come from, our players bring passion, skill, and drive to the field every single night.




Current Standout Players & ONSL Alumni

  • Charlie Muñiz – University of the Cumberlands (NAIA): The national career home run leader across all divisions of college baseball, he is a powerhouse at the plate. Representing the NAIA with pride, he turned heads across the country with his elite strength, consistent production, and game-changing presence in the batter’s box. His dominance is proof that elite talent shines at every level of the game.

  • Parker Byrd – East Carolina University (NCAA Division I): A true trailblazer, Parker Byrd made history as the first NCAA baseball player to compete with a prosthetic leg. His journey has inspired athletes across the country, showcasing unmatched resilience, determination, and leadership both on and off the field. Byrd continues to defy limits and redefine what’s possible in the game of baseball.

  • Davie Morgan – North Carolina Wesleyan University (NCAA Division III): 2024 ONSL Player of the Year and former All-American, Morgan made a name for himself as a clutch-hitting second baseman. He’s now taking his talents to the professional stage with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League.

  • John Horton – Norfolk State University (NCAA Division I): The 2024 ONSL Pitcher of the Year and recipient of the prestigious Gieseke Gold Award, he stood out as a dominant force on the mound. Known for his pinpoint control and devastating off-speed pitches, he consistently kept hitters off balance and shut down opposing offenses. His fierce competitiveness and ability to perform under pressure made him a key leader for his team throughout the season. 

  • Cade Martinez – San Diego State (NCAA Division I): The 2024 ONSL Defensive Player of the Year, he showcased exceptional defensive skills throughout the season. Known for his elite range, sharp instincts, and smooth glove work, he consistently made difficult plays look effortless. 

  • Braylon Whitaker – Wingate University (NCAA Division II): Drafted in the 19th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles, Braylon Whitaker is a talented outfielder known for his bat-to-ball skills and athleticism. Before turning pro, he committed to Wingate University and made an impact with the ONSL. 

  • David Smith – La Salle University (NCAA Division I): A dynamic switch-hitter and versatile outfielder, he began his collegiate career at La Salle University before transferring to the University of Connecticut. Drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 14th round of the 2023 MLB Draft, he has been developing his skills in the Tigers' minor league system. 

  • Brendan Collins – University of North Carolina at Greensboro (NCAA Division I): A right-handed pitcher with a strong presence on the mound, Brendan Collins played college baseball at UNCG. He was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 17th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. Collins has been developing his skills in the Nationals' minor league system, showcasing his talent and potential for future success.

  • Ryan Wilson – Davidson College (NCAA Division I): A dynamic outfielder and first baseman, he played college baseball at Davidson College, where he earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Year honors in 2023. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 9th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. Wilson has been developing his skills in the Padres' minor league system, showcasing his talent and potential for future success.

The Old North State League continues to attract top-tier talent from premier programs, including numerous players drafted by MLB organizations. This highlights the league’s dedication to providing a highly competitive and dynamic environment where players from all levels can develop, showcase their skills, and prepare for professional careers.
