The Raleigh Red Oaks: A New Era Begins in the Carolina Capital

Raleigh, NC — November 13, 2024 — Raleigh’s summer baseball scene is getting a major upgrade as the former Oak City Gliders join The Old North State League family under new ownership and debut a fresh identity as the Raleigh Red Oaks. The team’s transformation, led by Chase Lio and his family, reflects a commitment to both competitive baseball and the vibrant community spirit Raleigh is known for.

With a nod to Raleigh’s "Oak City" nickname, the newly rebranded Red Oaks take the field with a spirited squirrel mascot, swinging a tree branch like a bat, symbolizing both the energy of the team and the historic ties to the region.

“Raleigh is an awesome baseball city, and we’re thrilled for the chance to build a competitive team and create fun, community-focused events that baseball fans here can truly be excited about and proud of,” said Chase Lio, owner of the Raleigh Red Oaks. “We are eager to contribute to the sports culture here and provide an unforgettable experience for fans of all ages.”

The Red Oaks are designed to be much more than a summer baseball team. They aim to capture Raleigh’s unique character, both on and off the field. Lio emphasized the team’s dedication to fostering local connections, with plans to partner with youth sports organizations, community businesses, and local nonprofits to make sure the Red Oaks represent Raleigh through and through.

“The Red Oaks rebrand is about more than a new look—it’s a commitment to Raleigh,” Lio explained. “On the field, we are focused on building a team that reflects the spirit of the community, investing in top-tier coaches and support to ensure our players have the best experience and are set up for success. Summer baseball is meant to be fun for the players and fans, but we also want to win! Off the field, we are partnering with local youth sports, businesses, and organizations, ensuring this team doesn’t just play in Raleigh; it’s defined by Raleigh.”

The Raleigh Red Oaks’ inaugural season will kick off in summer 2025, with a full lineup of games, family-friendly events, and community gatherings. Season tickets and merchandise will be available soon, giving fans a chance to join the excitement of this new era in Raleigh baseball.
